Happy Halloween!

I am working till 7 today so I don’t think that I will get to see many of the trick or treaters.  That’s sad!

I am hoping that Joe might take a few pics!

Some of the parents cancelled their childrens vision therapy do to Halloween.

This is going to be my lab. I guess you could consider it my office.

All of the eyeweartrays, accesories and lab equipment (not much) will be stored here.

I like that I have a window!

Where the cabinets are is where the contact lens area is going to be. There is going to be a little desk in front. Against the walls are going to be all the frame boards. The door to the right is going to be my optical lab. The walls are a nice green color!

The whole office is 2.500 square feet!

New office

Rick (the consultant that is working for Dr Beasley) took me to the new office yesterday. It is coming along nicely. This is the reception desk that people will see when they enter the office. It is being built from scratch. Yesterday the guy was cutting the silver and putting in in place. The tape is holding it is place till the adhesive dries. The top of the desk is going to be granite with green flecks through it.

It is going to be warm and inviting!

Work

I finally started work a week and a half ago. I started on a Wednesday. I was shadowing the receptionist to see how they did their scheduling. I also sat in on a few vision therapy sessions as well as a few New Patient Consults with the Dr.

To my surprise on Monday the receptionist that was working there was not in. Turns out she was fired….sooooooooooo who is the receptionist now? That would be me. I am a fill in until we open the new office in 3 weeks.

I had about an hour training on the complex schedule. I did get confused a couple times, but other than that am doing really well. It is completely laid back there. That is except some tension when things go hay wire with the builders. The Dr can be a bit moody.

Here is an example; Someone came to fix the copier in the back. The office manager did not tell me he was coming and either did the Dr. So I let the man back in where the copier was. He did something. And apparently it was not what he was supposed to do. So the Dr. got a little flip with me. I got MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn’t say anything but went back upfront and ranted to the 2 gals that work for the other Dr.

Here is the thing. I just did what Wendy told me to do… take him back to where the copier was. No one told me what he was supposed to do. That is not my fault. And I am not going to put up with the Dr. almost yelling at me for something I didn’t know anything about. If it was my fault it is one thing…..

I respect the Dr., I respect her expertise. But I am not going to be talked to in such a manor. I don’t care who the person is. Everyone deserves to be treated fairly. I don’t talk like that to anyone and I will not tolerate being talked to that way!
I spoke with Joe about it. I think I am going to have a word with Wendy. If this is the way she is with her staff, well I am not sure if I am going to want keep working there.

I do realize that she was having a bad day. The plans for the office are 2 months behind schedule, and things are not going exactly the way she wants them to go at times. I can cut her some slack on that end. But I am still going to say something to Wendy.

I think that the Dr. knows that she was in the wrong because when I was leaving she said thank you for the days work and patted me on the arm.

I will just have to see where things go.

Lazy Day

Today was pretty much uneventful.  As a matter of fact didn’t even leave the house.

Joe went to The Apple store to fill out his paperwork for his Holiday job.  He may keep the job after the Holiday.  Working a weekend a month.  That way he can keep his discount and the benefits. He is eligible right away to start the 401K plan.  Very impressive!  He will also be able to buy Apple stock at a discount.

Joe is looking forward to meeting new people as well.  He and Jason have a smaller office so unless they are meeting with clients it is pretty much the two of them all day.

It was nice to have a lazy day today!  :)

Work week

This week went well at work.  I started Wednesday.  I didn’t work a full day on Tuesday.  Not enough for me to do.

Next week I am going to be at the new office.  Someone needs to be there when the contractors are doing their work.  The receptionist desk is being built Monday.  The Dr is going to bring me in a table and a chair.  I am hoping that the office next door has Wi Fi so that I can do some things on my laptop.  I am also going to bring some books with me.

I will bring my camera so I can record the progress that they will be making.  They are looking to open on November 20th.  One month from now.

Luckily I will be able to have some hours in between now and then.  I don’t even care if it is 20 hours………..just as long as it is something.

WORK FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am starting work tomorrow.  I am going in from 8-5.  Going to learn the set up the chart system and Dr Beasleys handwriting.  Thur and Fri I think are going to be half days.  Not sure yet though.

Dr. Beasley is closing with the bank on Thursday.  She needs a certificate of occupancy for a business before I can go and start pricing frames.

Friday I am going to be on site to wait for the reception desk and some other office things.

I drove to work this morning to do a dry run of how long it would take once I start at the new location.  I am going to leave EXTRA EARLY because traffic is going to be a nightmare!

Joe is trying out his Gene Simmons impression. I had no idea he was doing this when I took the pic of us. When he showed me I was laughing so hard I thought I would pee myself!
